Capture the Colour Contest 2013

Time to break away from the usual posts for a bit of competition fun…

As I submit five of my favourite colour themed photos for Travel Supermarket’s “Capture the Colour 2013” photo contest!

A massive thanks goes out to Hari at alternative.reality for the shout out to get involved with this. And with some great prizes on offer, including an iPad, a FujiFilm camera and £3,000 in spending money it’s always worth a punt.

There’s five simple themes involved – Red, Yellow, Green, Blue and White, so here’s my entries. There’s a couple you may have seen before, but there’s also some new ones too…

Red

Red flowers - Devon, England

Red flowers – Devon, England

This summer has been the best one we’ve had in England for seven years! Not that it’s had a lot of competition in that time mind… But still, it’s been nice to actually see some sunny days in my home land, and the flowers have been out in bloom big time as this close-up shows.

Yellow

Yellow buildings in Vielle Ville - Nice, France

The gorgeous old streets of Nice’s Vielle Ville (old town) are decorated with buildings soaked in warm colours, and this shot sprung straight to my mind when it came to the yellow category.

Green

Green rental bikes - Amsterdam, Netherlands

These neon green bikes immediately caught my attention in Amsterdam, and I figured they would make a striking selective colour shot. Keeping the green as the only colour turned out to be a successful experiment.

White

Asakusa Lanterns - Tokyo, Japan

White was the trickiest subject to find a suitable image for, but I eventually remembered this close up shot of some striking Japanese lanterns decorated with beautiful kanji calligraphy near Senso-ji temple in Asakusa, Tokyo.

Blue

Stunning springtime at CA&C - Valencia, Spain

The stunning City of Arts & Sciences in Valencia completely “blue” me away the first time I visited, as I was lucky enough to stop by on an amazing spring day that lit up both the sky and surroundings.

So here’s hoping you’ve enjoyed my photos, now it’s time to (hopefully) pass the torch on to some other travel sharp-shooters:

Good luck all!

  1. Great shots. I haven’t played around much with selctive colour but I might have to have a go at this technique.
And well done coming up with something other than snow for the white theme 🙂

    • Thank you. Yeah I really enjoy selective colour, you can make some really striking shots with them. I think I’m actually gonna get some of mine printed on canvas at some point.

And thankfully I didn’t even have that option available to me when it came to the white one haha!

  2. Beautiful entries, all of them are great, but my favorite is the white, I love the graphic elements to the image

I’m inviting you to join us for Travel Photo Mondays, the link runs all week so I hope you can join us for the next installment?

    • Thanks very much Noel! Yeah I was glad I remembered that one for the white image.

Cheers for the invite. I’ll have a look, and hopefully I’ll have time to join in.
